All visitors to Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) must submit a completed NN9327 to their sponsoring department prior to arrival. Hardcopy forms will not be accepted at the NNS Access Center.
Access to NNS may be requested for up to two years provided the individual has a background investigation and contract/purchase order# valid through the requested date.
First-time visitors are required to present:
Proof of Identification
Proof of US Citizenship
Proof of Background Investigation Completion
Note: A REAL ID compliant driver’s license can only be used as proof of identity. It does not satisfy the citizenship requirement. Copies or images on electronic devices are not accepted.
An 18 minute safety video is required every 365 days for visitors requesting unescorted access.
Please allow time for viewing if needed.
Lost or forgotten badges will be replaced for a fee at the Access Center.

Directions to Buildings 520 (230 41st St Newport News, VA 23607) Building 86 (4101 Washington Ave, Newport News, VA 23607):
From Richmond:
Proceed on I-64 East to Exit 264 (I-664 Downtown Newport News) bear right, proceed on I-664 South, Downtown Newport News, 4 miles approx. to Exit 5 – 35th Street exit, bear right, proceed approx. 1/4 mile to 35th street., keep left to end of ramp which exits on 35th street. – proceed on 35th street make a right on Washington Ave. Proceed down Washington Ave and make a right onto 41st Street. Building 520 is on your right hand side. Building 86 is on Washington Ave facing the “Dorothy” tugboat.
From Norfolk:

Visitor Parking
Parking is available in the marked visitor spaces located in the parking lot in front of building 520. You must check in at the guard station in the lobby of 520 if you park in this lot. There are also paid lots (All Right Parking) available on 39th St and Huntington Ave (Behind the badge office) and on the corner of 45th St and Washington Ave.

Turn left onto Aluminum Ave. go approx. ½ to the third entrance on the left. Turn left into 2175 Aluminum Ave.

Parking is available in the front of this building. Spaces are not number or marked visitor. You may park in any space. Truck delivery is at the back of the building.

Proceed on I-64 East to Exit 264 (I-664 Downtown Newport News) bear right, proceed on I-664 South, Downtown Newport News, 4 miles approx. to Exit 5 – 35th Street exit, bear right, proceed approx. 1/4 mile to Warwick Blvd., bear right to end of ramp which exits on Warwick Blvd. and 36th Street – proceed on Warwick Blvd. to Mercury Blvd. overpass. Get into the left-hand turn lane. Once you pass under the overpass turn left following the signs for the James River Bridge. Take the ramp to Mercury Blvd. and immediately get into the left lane. At the first red light turn left onto River Road, continue on River Road until it splits with Shipyard Drive to the Right. Stay to the right onto Shipyard Drive.
From Norfolk:
Proceed on I-64 West to Exit 264 (I-664 Downtown Newport News) bear right, proceed on I-664 North, Downtown Newport News, 4 miles approx. to Exit 5 – 35th Street exit, bear right, proceed approx. 1/4 mile to Warwick Blvd., bear right to end of ramp which exits on Warwick Blvd. and 36th Street – proceed on Warwick Blvd. to Mercury Blvd. overpass. Parking is available on the backside of the Innovation building. This building is located at the furthest end of the north yard parking lot. The top of the building reads “Innovation Building” There are a few parking spaces marked for visitors.

Proceed on I-64 East to Exit 264 (I-664 Downtown Newport News) bear right, proceed on I-664 South, Downtown Newport News, 4 miles approx. to Exit 6 26th Street. Proceed straight ahead on 26th street, through 2 stop lights. At STOP sign turn left on West Ave. Visitors turn right into VASCIC entrance, just past the Victory Arch.
From Norfolk:
