NEWPORT NEWS SHIPBUILDING

With more than 25,000 employees – including third-, fourth- and even fifth-generation shipbuilders – we’re the largest industrial employer in Virginia. We’re also the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. Our diverse and innovative team of professionals ranges from skilled trades to project managers, engineers and software developers to solution architects, technical subject matter experts, and system users. Together we’re collaborating at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of the most powerful and survivable naval ships in the world.

SHIPBUILDING

We’re the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama, employing more than 11,000 people. For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. As the largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we are simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades.

OUR APPRENTICE SCHOOLS

THE INGALLS APPRENTICE SCHOOL

Founded in 1952 located in Pascagoula, MS, is recognized as the backbone of a well-trained workforce offering 14 specialized craft apprenticeship programs. Our Apprentice programs consist of instruction and hands-on development. This allows our apprentices to receive an education, build work ethic, gain experience and develop into world-class journeymen of their crafts.

THE APPRENTICE SCHOOL at newport news shipbuilding

Founded in 1919 at Newport News Shipbuilding and located in Newport News, VA, is the preeminent apprenticeship in the nation offering apprenticeships in 19 shipbuilding disciplines and 8 advanced programs of study. We are accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education and registered with the Virginia Apprenticeship Council. The school offers apprentices the opportunity to earn college credit, receive competitive pay and benefits and learn a trade. We are committed to fostering apprentices’ development of craftsmanship, scholarship and leadership.
