HOUSTON, May 23, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that Hieu “Hugh” Tran, an employee at HII’s UniversalPegasus International (UPI) subsidiary, is the recipient of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ 2016 Keith Thayer Exceptional Early Career Engineer Award. The award was presented earlier this month by ASME’s Petroleum Division at the Offshore Technology Conference in recognition of outstanding dedication, effort and performance by an early career professional.

“We are very proud of Hugh,” said John Barnes, UPI’s senior vice president for project management. “This achievement is a result of his commitment to excellence and hard work, and we are excited about Hugh’s bright future at UPI.”

Tran started his engineering career in 2008 at KBR as a process engineer working on offshore oil and gas projects. Then in 2012 he joined Jacobs, where he worked in project engineering and management. He was recruited by UPI in 2015 as a senior project engineer in UPI’s project management group.

Tran earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida, a master’s degree in computational engineering from a joint program between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the National University of Singapore, and a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Vietnam National University. He is a registered professional engineer in Texas.
