HII’s REMUS 620 medium-class unmanned underwater vehicle (MUUV) recently completed the U.S. Navy’s UUV Confidence Course in Bangor, Washington.

Defense Daily reported on Jan. 30 that the vessel’s operations on the course “validated ‘several’ technical aspects” of the MUUV.

“Putting our newest design through its paces on the Navy’s UUV Confidence Course was a great opportunity for us to validate our design improvements to the vehicle,” said Adrian Gonsalves, the REMUS 620 product manager in HII’s Mission Technologies division. “The confidence course provided us a great benchmark that we can use to continue our improvements to this great design and gave us a chance to show UUV sailors in Keyport how much improvement we built into this next-generation MUUV in terms of modularity and maintainability.”

The REMUS 620, designed and built by Mission Technologies’ Uncrewed Systems group in Pocasset, Massachusetts, has a range of 275 nautical miles; battery life of up to 110 hours; and can be deployed from submarines, small manned or unmanned boats, amphibious ships, surface combatants or helicopters.

“HII is extremely proud to be one of the first industry partners to utilize this unique and important national defense asset,” Gonsalves said.
