Vice Adm. DeWolfe “Chip” Miller (U.S. Navy, Ret.) is vice president of Customer Affairs at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, located in Newport News, Va. Named to this position in 2021, Miller works in the company’s Washington, D.C. office, and is responsible for all customer outreach for Newport News’ programs.
Prior to his current position, Miller served as the Navy’s “Air Boss,” responsible for material, personnel and combat readiness for all Naval Aviation forces and 11 nuclear-powered aircraft carriers deployed globally. Miller held additional command assignments, including commanding officer of Strike Fighter Squadron 34 (VFA-34), USS Nashville (LPD 13) and USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77). He also served as commander of the Bush Carrier Strike Group (CSG 2) that participated in combat operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Resolve.
Miller graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981 and holds a master’s degree from the National Defense University. He is a Syracuse University national security management fellow and is a graduate of the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program.
