George Nungesser

VICE PRESIDENT, PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

George Nungesser is vice president, Program Management for Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of HII. In this role, George and his team have profit and loss responsibility for all elements of program execution, and serve as the principal liaisons to the customer for all platforms in the Ingalls portfolio. The Program Management team also has the responsibility for capture of new business within existing product lines at Ingalls.

George is a second-generation Ingalls Shipbuilder. George began his career at Ingalls in 1988 as an industrial engineer. He has served as DDG 51 program manager since 2007. Under his leadership, Ingalls has delivered eight destroyers to the Navy and returned two overhauled ships to the fleet. Previously, he served as director of Follow Yard Services.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and an MBA from The University of Southern Mississippi.

George is a second-generation Ingalls Shipbuilder. George began his career at Ingalls in 1988 as an industrial engineer and moved to be Director of the Planning Yard contracts whereby he led the advanced planning product development for hundreds of CNO availabilities. He also has served as DDG 51 program manager since 2007-2021. Under his leadership, Ingalls has delivered twelve DDG 51 destroyers, LPD 28, two overhauled ships to the US Navy fleet and NSC 10 to the US Coast Guard. George has also been instrumental in obtaining over $100M in capital expenditure funds to create efficiencies at Ingalls Shipbuilding. With over 35 years in the shipbuilding industry, George has built relationships with Navy, Marine Corp, and Coast Guard officers as well executive leaders throughout his career. George’s career has provided him the opportunity to lead all of the different areas of work from proposal development, capture management, risk management, change management, acquisition programs, as well as supporting and executing maintenance and modernization CNO availabilities.

Over the years, George has been on several local boards supporting community sports programs as well as providing support to numerous charitable organizations.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and an MBA from The University of Southern Mississippi.
