NEWPORT NEWS, Va., March 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — UniversalPegasus International (UPI), a subsidiary of Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII), is participating in the 2015 East Africa Trade Mission to Mozambique and Tanzania from March 18-26. Attending the mission on behalf of UPI is Tony Stead, UPI’s business development manager for the U.K.

The mission, headed by 13 Scottish organizations from industry and academia, was formed to develop new international partnerships in the East African oil and gas market by bolstering the industry’s global development, supply chain management, health and safety, and training. It is organized by Scottish Development International (SDI), the international arm of Scottish Enterprise, and is supported by the U.K. Trade and Investment (UKTI) and Aberdeen City Council.

“East Africa is a pioneering market, and with 150 trillion cubic feet of gas discovered off the East Africa coast in deep water, Scotland’s unrivaled deep water subsea delivery and offshore experience makes us the perfect partner to help bring it into production,” said Gary Soper, SDI’s regional manager in Africa.

UPI has performed work in more than 20 countries and has offices in Aberdeen and London. The company is currently supporting a multinational oil and gas company with a project in Mozambique.

“Working with SDI, we aim to increase our activity in East Africa since it’s a key market,” Stead said. “Attending missions such as this is a crucial part of helping us strengthen our global presence, particularly in a region with such potential. In order to augment the East African oil and gas industry, the region will need expanded education, training and capacity building. UPI hopes to work with other Scottish leaders in business and academia to help with this expansion.”

Representing UPI, Stead is one of 24 representatives from Scottish oil and gas companies, educational groups and government organizations to meet with East African representatives at the mission.

As UPI’s business manager located in London, Stead focuses on international business and looks to bolster the company’s access to the global market. Since 2001, he has done business in many African countries through UPI and his previous employers. Stead works alongside Gavin Stevenson, the company’s U.K. managing director, who has been with the U.K. operation since its inception more than 20 years ago. Africa has been a key market since this beginning.
