Tim Sweitzer 1 Hero

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 9, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) employee Timothy J. Sweitzer has received Inside Business‘ Top Forty Under 40 Award for his professional success and community involvement. Sweitzer is the director of material engineering for the company’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division.

Inside Business, a local weekly business publication, created the Top Forty Under 40 award 14 years ago to recognize local business professionals under 40 years of age. Honorees are chosen by an independent judging panel from publicly submitted nominations. The winners will be honored during a banquet tonight at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott and profiled in a special issue of the magazine.

“Winning this award is an incredible honor and reflects the support and encouragement I am given at work and at home to pursue my professional and community interests,” Sweitzer said.

Sweitzer is responsible for maintaining technical data for more than 300,000 active parts, assuring that more than $1 billion of material purchased per year meets all requirements, and improving performance through better integration between engineering and hundreds of suppliers. The 10-year shipyard veteran has held several leadership roles of increasing responsibility in production engineering, manufacturing planning, process excellence and quality. Sweitzer also serves as board chairman for Starbase Victory, a non-profit private/public partnership with Portsmouth Public Schools that inspires grade school students to pursue opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
