NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Nov. 6, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that it has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross’ Disaster Relief Fund. The money will help provide food, shelter, supplies and comfort to the people affected by Hurricane Sandy.

“With most of our operations along coastal waters, we truly understand the human suffering, loss of life and damage to property caused by Mother Nature,” said Bill Ermatinger, HII’s corporate vice president and chief human resources officer. “HII has joined other companies and thousands of private citizens to lend support.”

HII is also working with the American Red Cross to establish a “microsite” for employees to donate directly. “Donations will go toward providing much-needed food, shelter and supplies to people who have lost everything,” Ermatinger said.

About the American Red Cross: The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
