NEWPORT NEWS, Va., March 08, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that its SN3 subsidiary is sponsoring the 2016 National Environmental Justice (NEJ) Conference and Training Program. The conference will take place March 9-12 at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C.

Environmental justice is a commitment to not discriminate against individuals or communities in regard to environmental laws, regulations and policies. Combining socioeconomic factors with environmental protection, environmental justice aims to ensure non-discriminatory treatment of all communities, particularly low-income and minority populations, in regard to negative impacts to the environment.

“We support NEJ’s mission in maintaining awareness of key issues and promoting new approaches in building healthy communities,” said SN3 President Nick Lombardo. “By working with the NEJ conference and its partners, we hope to spread greater awareness regarding responsible environmental decision making in the communities where we live and work.”

The NEJ conference will feature guest speakers, technical assistance workshops, training sessions and student research forums dedicated to exploring issues and new initiatives related to environmental justice.

2016 marks the first year that the NEJ conference will run simultaneously with the National Conference on Health Disparities to present “A National Dialogue for Building Healthy Communities,” a unified program that will address the connections between environmental justice and health disparities.
