Jennifer Dunn

VICE PRESIDENT, COMMUNICATIONS

Jennifer Dunn is vice president of Communications for Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII. She was appointed to this position in 2016 and leads the development and execution of the communications strategy for Newport News Shipbuilding.

In this role, Dunn has responsibility for employee communications, special events and protocol, executive communications and speechwriting, social media, local advertising, and crisis communications. She also oversees a team of creative professionals who provide graphic design, photography, videography and digital services across the enterprise.

Dunn joined Newport News Shipbuilding in 1997 as a communications coordinator in the submarine program. She moved to the company’s Corporate Communications division in 2000 to support employee communications and media relations. Since then, she has held positions of increasing responsibility to include manager of media relations and interim director of Communications for a Department of Energy special assignment. In 2008, Dunn was named director of Communications for Newport News Shipbuilding, and she supported the spin-off and formulation of Huntington Ingalls Industries in 2011.

Dunn is a Newport News, Virginia, native and third-generation shipbuilder. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Christopher Newport University and received protocol officer certification from The Protocol School of Washington. In the community, Dunn is an advocate for the arts and volunteers as a community newsletter editor.
