Matt Mulherin Jr. is vice president of Contracts at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. Named to this position in 2022, he is responsible for the shipyard’s contracts, pricing and export/import licensing and compliance.

Mulherin, a second-generation shipbuilder, began his career with the shipyard in 2004 as a financial analyst. Since then, he has served in leadership positions of increasing responsibility, including business manager for the Virginia-Class Submarine Block III Program and director of business management for both submarine and aircraft carrier programs. These roles provided him experience and responsibility for all financial aspects of the shipyard’s entire product line. Prior to his current appointment, he served as program director for Doris Miller (CVN 81) and Future Aircraft Carriers.

Mulherin earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Virginia Tech and an MBA from The College of William and Mary.
