NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 31, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that Jennifer Boykin, vice president of engineering and design for the company’s Newport News Shipbuilding division, has been selected as the American Society for Engineering Management’s (ASEM) 2012 Engineering Manager of the Year.
“I work with some of the greatest engineering managers in the world, so I am very humbled by this award,” said Boykin, who joined NNS in 1987 and is responsible for all ship design, planning yard and topside construction and test engineering.
Prior to being named to her current position earlier this year, Boykin served as vice president of quality, engineering services and process excellence and was responsible for the formulation, management and oversight of NNS’ quality and process excellence programs, policies, goals and objectives. She earned a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and a master’s degree in engineering management from The George Washington University.
The award is presented to an engineering manager who contributes to the advancement of engineering management by way of personal achievement, leadership, professional integrity or service to the profession and the public.
“Jennifer is an excellent role model of someone who has successfully implemented the principles of engineering management to make a difference in the workplace,” said Joette Sonnenberg, a past president of ASEM who nominated Boykin for the award.
ASEM is a professional organization for engineering managers worldwide. Members include academics, industrial engineers and engineering management professionals from a variety of high-technology industries.
