INGALLS SHIPBUILDING'S '5K ON THE CAUSEWAY' RAISES $10,000 FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS

PASCAGOULA, Miss., Oct. 3, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries' (NYSE:HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division raised $10,000 for Special Olympics as more than 800 runners and dozens of contributing sponsors participated in the second annual "5K on the Causeway" last weekend.

"We had an outstanding turnout this year, doubling the number of runners from last year's race," said Edmond Hughes, Ingalls' vice president of human resources and administration. "This event will continue to grow. This run helps us promote the health and wellness of our employees, but it also allows us to work together with community runners to donate money to a great organization: the Special Olympics. Ingalls Shipbuilding appreciates all of the hard work and effort of our employees and sponsors to make this such a big success."

Helen Parish, president and CEO of Special Olympics Mississippi, thanked Ingalls Shipbuilding, all of the employees who helped coordinate the run, and the nearly 200 volunteers who have worked the Special Olympics games in Mississippi.

"This year's 5K event was absolutely amazing," she said. "It is hard to believe that the number of runners increased so much. The funds from last year's event and this year's event will be used to help send the Mississippi delegation to the 2014 USA National Games in New Jersey. On behalf of the athletes of Special Olympics Mississippi (SOMS), I would like to thank the Ingalls volunteers for their dedication and volunteerism throughout the year."

Nearly 60 sponsors from across the entire Gulf Coast helped support the run and Special Olympics. Artwork of the banner can be found here:
