INGALLS SHIPBUILDER HONORED FOR STEM ACHIEVEMENTS

PASCAGOULA, Miss., Oct. 16, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that Ivette Nunez, a systems engineer at the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division, was honored by the Great Minds in STEM organization at the annual Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corp. (HENAAC) conference in New Orleans. Nunez received a "Professional Achievement – Level I" award, which honors science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) professionals with 10 to 19 years of experience who have made significant contributions in their fields.

"Ivette's strong industrial engineering background, approach to resolving issues, and attention to detail align well with our responsibilities in manufacturing engineering," said Gaylene McHale, Ingalls' program support and control director. "She is an extremely dedicated employee who understands the importance of both professional development and community involvement. Not only does she perform her job well, but she is a valued resource in supporting other functional organizations. I congratulate her on this award, which honors her tremendous efforts on our production engineering team."

Nunez has been with Ingalls since 2005. She holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Central Marta Abreu de las Villas in Cuba and is currently pursuing a second bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Orleans.

For a quarter century, Great Minds in STEM has honored the best and brightest STEM minds America has to offer. Each honoree is peer-reviewed and selected by a committee of representatives from industry, government, military and academic institutions.
