VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., April 06, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that its AMSEC LLC subsidiary has promoted Ryan Norris to director of strategic planning and business development. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading and executing AMSEC’s strategic planning, business development, capture, proposal and marketing activities in support of business growth. Norris reports directly to Harris Leonard, vice president of HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division and president of AMSEC operations.

In this capacity, he is responsible for leading and executing AMSEC’s strategic planning, business development, capture, proposal and marketing activities in support of business growth. Norris reports directly to Harris Leonard, vice president of HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division and president of AMSEC operations.

Norris joined AMSEC in 2004 and has served in several management positions in San Diego and in Hampton Roads. “Ryan brings a wealth of knowledge, demonstrated success, and a strong operations and business development background that makes him an excellent fit for this position,” Leonard said. “His knowledge of our business and customers is critical to the company’s growth in the government services industry.”

Norris earned a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During his time at MIT, he completed a two-year fellowship at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory’s Intelligent Unmanned Vehicle Center.

Before joining AMSEC, Norris served six years as a surface warfare officer and engineering duty officer in the U.S. Navy. He served one tour on the amphibious ship USS Mount Vernon (LSD 39) and subsequently supervised ship repair availabilities and overhauls as project officer for four HII-built ships: the amphibious ships USS Tarawa (LHA 1) and USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3) and the cruisers USS Princeton (CG 59) and USS Lake Champlain (CG 57).

Ryan Norris is AMSEC’s director of strategic planning and business development.
