Mission Technologies’ 1Q Leadership Town Hall Breaks from Tradition

Mission Technologies’ 1Q Leadership Townhall took a new direction. Rather than revisiting HII’s quarterly earnings, President Andy Green turned the spotlight to his leadership team, who delivered forward‑looking updates on strategy, major programs, and workforce initiatives.

Chief Financial Officer Ashutosh Gokhale opened the May 12 meeting with strong results: Q1 revenue reached nearly $750 million, beating plan by $7 million, with profitability and cash flow also ahead of expectations. He cautioned, however, that the team must remain alert to a shifting risk landscape. “We have more risk,” he said. “We need to keep on maintaining the momentum and make sure that we achieve our ’26 AOP and beat that as well.”

Chief Growth Officer Chris Bishop pointed to a heavy but promising pipeline, driven by rising defense spending and renewed acquisition activity. With more than 300 proposals still to submit and over 400 decisions expected this year, he described the pace as intense but encouraging. “Some of the doldrums of 2025 … we kind of made it through that,” he said. “Now it feels a little bit like an elephant going through a snake.”

Duane Fotheringham, president of the Unmanned Systems group, briefed leaders on the U.S. Navy’s Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel (MUSV), a strategically important program for HII and the Navy’s future fleet. The 151‑foot autonomous vessel is designed to host modular payloads at a lower cost than traditional platforms. “We’ve already started construction on five of those vessels,” he said, underscoring the team’s proactive approach ahead of the government’s formal decision.

Senior Vice President of Communications Jaime Orlando previewed this year’s DefenseTech Live event, which will feature an expanded venue, immersive demonstrations, and senior defense leaders. She stressed that customer turnout is critical. “This is what we do to position ourselves to win,” she said. “We need key influencers and key decision-makers coming and engaging with us.”

Senior Vice President of Human Capital Melanie Anderson shared that HR received a record 148 Impact Award nominations and highlighted progress in leadership development, including the second Accelerator cohort and planning for the August Leadership Summit. “We have a phenomenal program in place … pivotal to shaping our future,” she said.

Closing the meeting, Green thanked employees for their focus and commitment. “We’ve got great processes, great customer relationships, and great services and products to sell,” he said. “It’s just a matter of us executing.”
