VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Dec. 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that the Technology Solutions division of its AMSEC LLC subsidiary has been appraised at level 3 of the CMMI Institute's Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) program.
CMMI is a process improvement training and appraisal program and service administered and marketed by Carnegie Mellon University and the CMMI Institute. The appraisal was performed by Williamsburg Process Solutions, a third-party auditor specializing in appraisal and process improvement.
"This achievement validates our commitment to execute to rigorous standards that provide quality and timely software solutions to our existing and new customers," said Mary White, AMSEC's director of logistics, engineering, technology and training solutions. "It reinforces AMSEC's motto: 'Quality People Providing Quality Service.'"
AMSEC is implementing the CMMI for Development (CMMI-DEV) model, which provides guidance to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of product development work. According to the CMMI Institute, the benefits experienced by organizations using CMMI-DEV in their process improvement programs include improved customer satisfaction, increased quality and more accurate schedules.
An appraisal at maturity level 3 indicates the organization is performing at a "defined" level. At this level, processes are well characterized and understood and are described in standards, procedures, tools, and methods. The organization's set of standard processes, which is the basis for maturity level 3, is established and improved over time.
