Kirkland H. Donald

Chairman Of The Board

Adm. Kirkland H. Donald (U.S. Navy, Ret.) has served as Chairman of the Board of HII since April 2020. He served 37 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 2013 as Director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, where he was responsible for the safe and effective operation of the service’s nuclear-powered warships.

Donald previously served as Commander, Naval Submarine Forces; Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; Commander, Allied Submarine Command; and Commander, Task Forces 84 and 144. After retiring from the Navy, he joined Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. and served as Chief Operating Officer and then as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Donald serves on the board of directors of Entergy Corporation and on the board of directors of Centrus Energy Corporation, a nuclear energy company. He also serves on the boards of directors of Battelle Memorial Institute, and the Naval Submarine League.

Donald earned a bachelor of science degree in ocean engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy. He also earned a master’s of business administration from the University of Phoenix and completed Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Fellows Program.
