The Spark Behind Every Build

As a welder, you’ll use a variety of welding filler metals and processes to perform structural and pipe welds throughout all phases of aircraft carrier and submarine construction. Newport News Shipbuilding welders begin their careers by qualifying though our state-of-the-art welding school.

There are openings for experienced and entry-level welders. If you don’t have experience, we’ll train you!

What You'll Do

Perform structural and pipe welds.

Inspect welds to ensure quality, strength and accuracy.

Collaborate with other trades to complete projects.

Help build the most powerful naval ships in the world.
