Precision at Work
CNC Machinist
As a CNC machinist, you’ll operate machines such as lathes, mills, vertical machining centers and horizontal boring mills. You’ll troubleshoot operations and take appropriate actions to correct. These shipbuilders are also responsible for performing quality inspections and verifying dimensions of work piece are in accordance with drawing specifications.
Inside Machinist
As an inside machinist, you’ll work inside shops and be responsible for operating various manual and CNC machines to support submarine and aircraft carrier construction. These shipbuilders are also responsible for troubleshooting operations and performing quality inspections.
Outside Machinist
As an outside machinist, you’ll be responsible for operating various tooling and machinery supporting critical component and system installations for aircraft carrier and submarine construction. These shipbuilders work on propellers and shafting, elevators, periscopes, missile and torpedo launchers, turbines, pumps.
What You'll Do
Measure and inspect finished components using precision instruments.
Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, mills, drill presses and CNC equipment.
Collaborate with other trades to complete projects.
Help build the most powerful naval ships in the world.
