Prior to joining DLA Piper, Kelly was an executive officer of American International Group, Inc., serving as Executive Vice President and General Counsel and as Vice Chairman, positions for which she was responsible for addressing legal, regulatory, corporate governance and risk management issues. Prior to joining American International Group, she was an executive and general counsel of several large, publicly traded companies, including MCI WorldCom, Sears, Roebuck and Co., and the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae).

Ms. Kelly served on the board of directors of O-I Glass, Inc. (formerly Owens-Illinois, Inc.), one of the leading manufacturers of glass containers, from 1992 until 2022. She was a director of Saxon Capital from 2005 to 2007.

Kelly serves on the boards of numerous philanthropic organizations, including as a director of George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates. She previously served as Chair of Equal Justice Works and as a former director for Lawyers for Children America.

Kelly earned a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Trinity University and a juris doctorate, magna cum laude, from George Washington University Law School. She is a member of the Texas Bar and the District of Columbia Bar and a fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
