Jonathan Arena

VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF COUNSEL

Jonathan Arena is vice president and chief counsel of Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, located in Newport News, Va. Named to this position in 2018, Arena provides legal advice and counsel to senior management and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the provision of legal advice to the division.

Prior to his current role, Arena served as senior counsel for Boeing Global Services, where he was responsible for legal matters pertaining to Boeing’s multibillion dollar Integrated Logistics Business, which leads Boeing’s interests in defense logistics, maintenance, services, and modifications. Prior to Boeing, he served as a senior attorney at NASA, where he acted as a senior legal advisor to the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs, as well as ethics counsel to the Astronaut Corps. In 2010, Jon was named NASA’s Attorney of The Year for his work on the groundbreaking Commercial Orbital Transportation Systems (COTS) program.

Arena earned a bachelor’s degree in history from The Ohio State University, a juris doctor from The College of William and Mary, and a master’s of business administration from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education program and a member of the Virginia Bar and Association of Corporate Counsel.
